About Us
Learn more about LUNAR — our mission, history, and the people who make it happen.
We are LUNAR
LUNAR (the Lamar UNiversity Association of Rocketry) is one of Lamar University's largest engineering student organizations. We apply STEM knowledge to design, construct, and launch high-powered rockets for national collegiate competitions.
As one of the largest engineering organizations on campus and the leading aerospace-focused student group, LUNAR provides students across all majors with hands-on experience in engineering, leadership, and teamwork.
Our team competes annually in high-powered rocketry competitions such as NASA's University Student Launch Initiative (USLI) and ESRA's IREC (as of 2026), where we develop experimental payloads, conduct research, and engage in STEM outreach throughout our community.
Our Mission
LUNAR’s mission is to inspire innovation, teamwork, and curiosity through the challenge of collegiate rocketry. We aim to give students practical aerospace experience, foster a passion for space exploration, and strengthen the bridge between education and industry.
Our History
LUNAR had its beginning in Spring of 2023 with the first rocketry club at Lamar University, until it later became known as LUNAR. Since then, LUNAR has continued to compete in rocketry competitions and we expect to continually grow both in number and in knowledge.
